Sunday Funday ... Thus Concludes Milford's Restaurant Week. We Called It Quits with Stonebridge & It Was Wonderful

It's almost a full moon...one more night. I graded in the morning, ran errands, ran the dog, met Pam for shopping (she needed a hose) and came home for a nap. We had reservations and Stonebridge and it was the last 4-course meal for a ridiculously good price. We just needed to put our orders in before 5 p.m. - we're official old and my friends are thinking like senior citizens.

I had mussels, French onion soup, fish, and ice cream. Others had steak tips and past dishes. It was delicious, but I loved the mussels the most: served with spinach, bacon, and gorgonzola cheese. The waitress, who is married to the chef, came out with recipe for the broth. I will cherish such kindness.

I came home at night to grade more, organize, write, and put my feet up. I am reminiscing about variations of me that could easily put in 14-hour days on the weekends, too, but I'm not there anymore. I want to spend time with friends unwinding, going for walks, reading, and working in the yard. Thirty-one years of teaching, and I'm not into the whole 'sacrifice your life so you're doing good for the institutions that abuse us' hustle. It has become rather old and my bones are feeling it. I'm now channeling all the greats that retired before me.

Ah, but French-onion soup. And their smokes Old Fashion was beyond good (Leo even had one and his Asian genes usually forbid him from consuming the heavier alcohols.

Today, I have meetings, followed by meetings, followed by a screening, followed by a panel, followed by sleep. The warm weather is supposed to be with us for another 48 hours and then it looks like it is breaking for rain and more seasonable temperatures. I was reading about droughts in the area and how some lakes are drying up because there hasn't been water feeding them from the streams. I'm not thinking it will be a vibrant Fall this year with foliage, too, as everything seems thirsty and dry. The trees are like to say, "bye bye," and drop the brittle leaves. So much for that.

I will say, we all were in summer attire this first weekend in October and suffering with the sinus gunk that comes with the lack of rain. Mold and weeds are at a high. I've been sneezing like a madman (hence the nap). Ah, but it's Monday. There's much on the plate and I'm off again...

...very well fed from a weekend with weddings and friends.
